Co-Founder & Managing Director
Avie Tevanian
A technologist and operator whose work helped establish the software foundations of modern Apple products.
Avie co-founded NextEquity Partners and brings a rare combination of operating depth, technical judgment, and investing experience to the firm. Before NextEquity, he joined Elevation Partners as a Managing Director in 2010. Avie provides technology and product expertise to founders as well as a strong senior operating network in Silicon Valley.
He spent nearly a decade on Apple’s senior leadership team, serving as Chief Software Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Software Engineering. He led the organization that built Mac OS X, the platform that became the foundation for Apple’s modern operating systems.
Earlier, Avie was Vice President of Software Engineering at NeXT, where he led development of the NeXTSTEP operating system. At Carnegie Mellon, he was a principal designer and engineer of the Mach operating system—the technical lineage beneath OS X and iOS.
